It takes a 40 minutes’ drive per car from Fachhochschule Salzburg to reach the beautiful village St. Gilgen, which is full of experiences. St. Gilgen is located in Salzkammergut, which is also called the lake area in Salzburg. Next to water activities such as swimming, cliff jumping wind- surfing and boat cruising, St. Gilgen provides some of the most beautiful hiking spots in Salzburg. Hiking trails up to e.g. Schafberg or 12er Horn guarantee an awesome experience for everybody who enjoys outdoor activities, nature and new experiences in Salzburg.
Last Saturday, we used our spare time to hike up Plombergstein. Plombergstein is quite popular by climbers due to the huge amount of grades of difficulties but it also provides a 40 minutes’ hiking trail up to the peak from where you have a nice view of St. Wolfgang Lake- one of the greatest lakes in Salzburg. We parked our car on small parking spot next to the main road down to St. Gilgen, but there is also the opportunity to take bus 150 from Salzburg that departures almost every half an hour on working days.
Plombergstein is not an exhausting hike with a well-prepared hiking trail. On some difficult parts of the trail, there is the possibility to use stairs in order to facilitate the ascent. At the peak, there is a platform with seat facilities and Wifi provided. From our point of view, Plombergstein is a nice hiking option for students who want to visit St. Gilgen and just spend a little time on hiking.
