Fjällräven is an outdoor clothing and equipment company that’s committed to making nature more accessible. In true Swedish style, they focus on simplicity and practicality, and they have the utmost respect for the environment.
This is what they do:
- Develop functional, durable and timeless outdoor gear
- Act responsibly towards nature, animals and people
- Inspire and develop interest in outdoor life
When and where it all started:
1960
It all started with an aluminium-framed backpack. The young Åke Nordin had a dream: to create an outdoor gear company to make nature accessible to more people. And his first product, an aluminium-framed backpack, did just that. Being lighter yet stronger than anything of the time, it made getting outdoors easier and more enjoyable.
8 years later he developed his first item of Fjällräven clothing. During the 1960s and 70s the Fjällräven range extends from backpacks to tents, sleeping bags, jackets and trousers. Everything you need for the outdoors.
1978
The world’s favourite backpack is born, which is now known all over the world.
The namesake: Åke Nordin named his company after the arctic fox – Fjällräven in Swedish (which is also part of the logo). But it wasn’t enough for Åke to just offer the clothing and equipment to get out in nature.
He wanted to encourage people to be more in nature and to trek through the wilderness; because the more people experience nature, the more likely they are to care for it. His idea was turned into reality in 2005, with the launch of Fjällräven Classic: a 110km-long trek through northern Sweden.

“But whether we’re looking forward, backwards or sideways for inspiration, we’re always moving towards a common goal. Enabling and inspiring more people to experience nature. was Nature is in our DNA. We simply can’t deviate from it. Without it, we’d be nothing. It is our past, present and future. It’s our forever.”
